These 'lost wax' bronzes are formed via a casting process. The piece is initially formed using wax to which layers of clay are added. When the clay is fired the wax melts and drains away leaving the
clay mould. Molten brass is then poured into this mould and after cooling the clay is broken away. The cast item is then re-worked where necessary, and cleaned to bring out the rich surface lustre of the bronze.
The product is finished by applying a layer of wax, which while is not visible to the eye, seals the finished product. This process brings you the high quality pieces that are featured in this section. The detail
and finish need to be seen ‘in the flesh’ in order to be fully appreciated. We do however try to convey this as best we can by using a range of photographs for each item.
Maintenance
If kept indoors then no care is required. For outdoor use, if you wish to maintain the original lustre, then spray a fine coat of wax and buff with a cloth. Furniture wax or shoe polish are ideal
for this purpose.
