This is a waterfall and pond filter from Rockways is a great way to incorporate an accessible filter into a watercourse without having an unattractive box to spoil your garden scene. It works the same way as a conventional filter but is a waterfall as well and is a suitable filter for ponds up to 500 gallons.
It is made from Ultralite, a strong and weather resistant material guaranteed for 20 years that
is finished to look visually indistinguishable from natural slate.
It has a 1¼” BSP threaded connection at the back for water entry and can be located by the side of a garden pond and used in conjunction
with a submersible pond pump to create a combined waterfall and filter with a very natural appearance.
The filter comes with an inlet pipe, a drain plug and a grid for the filter medium to rest on. When water is pumped into the filter it comes up through the filter medium and out over the top edge of the waterfall. Lava rock is recommended as the filter medium.
Cleaning
Cleaning the filter is easy. When installing the filter it is recommended that a hose tail and length of hose is attached to the drain outlet. A valve can then be fitted to this drain hose and when the time comes to clean the filter simply open the drain valve and allow water to be pumped into the filter.
The sludge will be washed out the bottom of the filter. Close the valve to complete the cleaning process.
Another great way to use these filters is to plant them and use them as a vegetation filter. The plants feed on the nitrate in the water and help to keep the water clean.
