These tanks are manufactured from heavy duty polyethylene and are designed to be sunken into the ground and used as a sump for storing rainwater. Rainwater can be collected from a roof area via a drainpipe or ground run-off can be collected from a concrete
surface and directed into the tank.
Each tank is fitted with a fixed man-hole cover enabling access from the surface. The tanks may be drilled and bulk-head fittings used to create a drainpipe entry point or it is possible to have a section of plastic drainpipe welded into the top of the tank at extra cost.
A hole can be drilled at the top of the tank to allow water in the tank to be drawn off. The simplest method is to use a portable suction pump at the surface to draw water through this hole to water the garden via a hose-pipe for example or to fill a smaller water butt on the surface.
Alternatively a submersible pump could be used inside the tank and the power cable routed out through the top of the tank via a cable gland.
Please note these tanks are not suitable for the storage of drinking water. For ground installation these tanks must be set into concrete - installation guide (PDF 423kB). |
